What Is Your Birth Month Flower?

Gina Margolies

Many know the birthstone and astrological sign associated with the month in which they were born, but did you know each month has its own flower too? This is often referred to as the birth month flower, and there is one for every month of the year. Like birthstones, birth month flowers have special characteristics which make them unique. A list of the birth month flowers includes the type of flower for each month and the meaning or symbolism associated with that flower.

The birth month flower is not a new concept. Flip through the Old Farmer’s Almanac and you will spot a list of flowers associated with each month of the year. Some cultural historians say the Victorians introduced the idea that flowers had meanings embedded in them, while others think it was the ancient Romans who first associated a particular flower with the characteristics of a particular time of the year. Wherever it came from, the idea that flowers represent certain cultural concepts is not novel but it is fun.

Like astrological signs, birth month flowers have particular characteristics attributed to them which are said to reflect the personalities of those born in that month. Whether or not you ascribe to astrology or floriography, knowing your birth month flower is an entertaining diversion. The flowers are lovely and the ascribed meanings are charming and fun.
