Though the winter season seems an unlikely time for flowers to bloom, nature gave us plants which don’t mind the cold. January’s Birthday Blossom, the carnation, is one of them. This bloom often makes an appearance in centerpieces and bouquets, where it symbolizes love and affection. Found in a number of colors ranging from white and very light pink to dark red, the carnation is sometimes called gillyflower. Carnations are a pretty addition to any floral bunch, and can add a drop of warmth to a cold winter day.
