Gina Margolies

March Birth Month Flower Daffodil

March’s Birthday Blossom is the sunny daffodil. Because of when it blooms, the daffodil is one of the quintessential symbols of spring, so much so that daffodils seem to bring the very warmth of spring sunshine with them.

  1. The daffodil is the national flower of Wales. The Welsh wear it on March 1 to celebrate their patron, Saint David, heralding the soon to arrive spring.
  2. In England the daffodil is referred to as the Lenten lily.
  3. In Germany, the word for daffodil, osterblocke, actually means Easter bell.
  4. In China it is a popular symbol of the New Year
  5. In the United States we put daffodils on our Easter tables.
For those of us in the Northeast, daffodils practically define spring, as we often see them very early, right after the crocuses raise their brave, little heads. March’s Birthday Blossom brings a ray of sunshine and the hope of spring just around the corner.
